Willem Boot’s dream of cultivating exceptional Geisha coffee came to fruition in 2007 when he established Finca La Mula on the slopes of Panama’s Baru volcano. Located at an elevation of 1700-1800 meters, this 5-hectare farm was planted with over 6,000 Geisha coffee trees by 15 indigenous Ngöbe-Buglé workers. The farm’s unique microclimate, characterized by cloud forest conditions and volcanic soil, contributes to the coffee’s distinctive flavor profile.
La Mula has achieved remarkable success. In 2014, its natural processed Geisha won first place at the Best of Panama competition. The following year, La Mula’s maceration washed Geisha earned Coffee Review’s second-highest-ever score of 97 points. These accolades have solidified Finca La Mula’s position as a producer of some of the world’s most sought-after and exceptional coffees.
